Bratislava, Slovakia – May 9, 2025 – Eviden, the Atos Group business leading in advanced computing, today announces a contract with the Slovak Academy of Sciences to deliver Perun, Slovakia’s newest energy-efficient supercomputer. The project includes a comprehensive end-to-end solution, from hardware to software and technical support. With a capacity of up to 14.5 Petaflops – 14.5 million billion operations per second – Perun will strengthen Slovakia’s national computing infrastructure and help scientists solve complex problems in various fields – from natural sciences to technical disciplines to developing AI models.

Manufactured in Eviden’s European flagship factory in Angers, France, Perun will benefit from leading European technologies, including the Group’s advanced supercomputing platform, the BullSequana XH3000, as well as the Slovenian NTR’s containers and associated technologies that together form the Modular Data Center.

The supercomputing system will be delivered with its own Modular Data Center. Unlike traditional brick-and-mortar data centers, this approach allows the system to be installed into the containers along with cooling, power, networking and cabling – all pre-integrated directly on the factory floor before client delivery. This key step dramatically speeds up the installation process and reduces the risk of issues being discovered on the client’s site.

The main parts of the supercomputer will rely on Eviden’s unique patented Direct Liquid Cooling technology, which uses hot water to cool the system. This highly efficient solution eliminates the need for expensive and energy-intensive compressor cooling most of the year, leading to significant energy savings and cost reductions. The new Slovak supercomputer will therefore achieve an excellent PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) ratio – an metric that indicates how much of the total energy is directly consumed by IT equipment versus support systems. Thanks to this advanced cooling technology, Eviden’s supercomputers regularly rank at the top of the Green500 rankings, including systems currently holding 1st, 2nd and 6th positions.

Martin Sůra, Head of Eviden in Slovakia, Atos Group, said: “I am extremely pleased that the Slovak Academy of Sciences will have a supercomputer powered by key European technologies. This system will not only exceed the computing power of the Academy’s current supercomputer, but will also be much greener, with much lower electricity consumption relative to the performance. We are ready to support the Slovak Academy of Sciences in building an ecosystem of individual users across both the commercial and public sectors. We bring experience from many European countries that have procured supercomputers in recent years, where our solutions have been successful.”

Nikola Kovaničová, General Director, CSČ SAV, v.v.i, said: “The PERUN supercomputer will open up new possibilities for our users across various fields of science and research. Thanks to this, both Slovakia and the HPC Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences are advancing to the European level in the field of high-performance computing. This step brings new opportunities not only for the academic community but also for public administration and the private sector. The successful implementation of the project also lays a solid foundation for international cooperation and the further development of HPC in Slovakia. We appreciate the highly professional approach of Eviden Slovakia, s.r.o., which, maintained a high standard of communication and cooperation that significantly contributed to launching the implementation phase.”
