Delayed shipments, dampened spirits

The client was struggling with daily international shipment detentions at various ports, leading to significant losses. These shipping delays led to increased interactions between customers and service agents for query resolutions to the tune of ~1 million daily interactions, including 220K calls and 7K emails. The client was looking to streamline its shipments.

 

Eviden’s Data Lake and AI-based solution

As part of a five-year digital transformation roadmap, Eviden set up an innovation hub, collaborating with the client team to develop multiple Big Data and Analytics solutions. Eviden also developed a foundational data lake solution using Azure Synapse Analytics to store and research shipment and clearance data across the globe and layered it with AI-driven workflows to reduce cognitive load on consumers via auto-complete features.

Now, a shipment may be caged if there is missing or incomplete paperwork. Consequently, it may be held until all the correct paperwork is presented. Eviden implemented a predictive algorithm for determining the probability of a shipment clearance that has the potential to be caged.

 

Maximizing value

The data platform investment yielded many rewards: higher custom clearance, reduced shipment delays and increased customer satisfaction. With a real time monitoring solution and alerting of Azure resource utilization, the solution reduced overall platform costs. It also enabled self-service business intelligence (BI) for the business users.
With the foundational big data lake, the client could now store and analyze its shipments and clearance data. Overall, the solution delivered 16% reduction in international shipment detainment cost and 20% higher clearance through process intelligence.
