The SCORPION program enhances French Army’s Command & Control (C2) capabilities in order to successfully meet new operational challenges.

The SCORPION program, deployed across the French Army from Combat Units (Joint Battle Groups) to Support Units, provides altogether better protection and better mobility. More critically it creates a fully connected force, sharing combat information instantaneously. This is precisely where SICS – the unified information system developed by Eviden – at the heart of SCORPION comes into play. The fusion of the battlefield data in SICS allows data-driven decisions to be made at a speed and with a quality which gives the force an hedge in mission accomplishment. Combat-proven since 2021, the SICS has been used by French Army ever since.

Enhancing the operational capability of Battle Group

SICS improves the operational capability of Joint Battle Groups and provides useful and reliable information at the relevant pace, real-time when needed. Operations proven, SICS is the Battle Management System used by the French Army from Joint Battle Group down to Squad level.

SICS is an easy-to-use solution designed around, and delivering, the following capabilities:

  • Collaborative combat with a real-time, consolidated and accurate tactical situational awareness shared across headquarters, land vehicles (next-gen and legacy), dismounted soldiers, army aviation, with interfaces making it suited for use in joint and allied operations.
  • Accelerated OODA loop (Observe, Oriente, Decide, Act) with the distribution of orders and reports to all tactical levels, in the context of air-land combat. SICS reduces cognitive load by selectively delivering only the information relevant to each role. Integration and sharing of multi-sensors data into SICS allows faster detection, better protection and swift and precise aggression.

SICS, a multi-command system

On the battlefield, SICS Battle Management System can be used from level Battlegroup to dismounted Squad. It allows seamless and simple coordination between units, reduces the risk of friendly fire through BFT (BlueForce Tracking) and adds collaboration as new dimension to contact combat. SICS easily integrates with combat vehicle vetronics combat vehicle vetronics processing their data to enhance collaborative combat efficiency.

SICS at the command post

SICS provides decision-makers with an effective means to prepare, train and execute incoming missions. It aggregates information from the field and external sources to provide up-to-date information.

SICS vehicle

SICS is optimized for effective use in operational theater, seamlessly relaying information from onboard sensors and weapon systems. It provides situational awareness, enabling the sharing of information, orders, and alerts on the battlefield.

SICS for dismounted mode with foot calculator for Coy Commander's level

SICS enables the sharing of critical tactical information from the field, including the BFT with connectable equipment in dismounted mode. The knowledge of the actual situation on the ground facilitates quick and efficient action, providing essential information for mission accomplishment.

SICS ALAT

SICS does more: it also allows helicopters, whether combat or transport, into the tactical digital bubble. Hence, aircrafts alongside land forces become welded into a single tactical information systems which is interoperable, shared and resilient. SICS creates the SCORPION air-land tactical bubble.

Key Benefits

Accelerate OODA loop

Merging and sharing information to provide a clear operational view allows for better and faster decisions, hence increased operational efficiency. SICS delivers it through seamless communication across all levels of command with a user-friendly interface and features adapted to user's position in the command chain. Reduced time from detection to destruction becomes reality.

Enable collaborative combat

Instant tactical situational awareness, BlueForce Tracking and chat at combined and air-land operations level.

Design to be resilient

SICS is battle-proven and hardened. We known that C4Si and BMS have to operate in Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent and Limited (DDIL) environments. SICS is communication means agnostic and operates with various tactical networks (IP radio, LTE networks, SATCOM, low bandwidth…).

Interoperability

Combat operations commonly take place in a coalition context. Combined and Joint dimensions are also the norm. SICS is fully interoperable, making sure people speak the same language and share the same operational picture. SICS easily integrates with all platforms, new generation or legacy.

Native interoperability

In a tense context, when our forces and allies face near-peer adversaries, constant adaptation and collaborative combat, joint-operation capability are key to take prevail.

Collaborative combat has many facets: it incorporates the notions of coordination between weapons and nations, as well as integration between doctrines to prepare for joint operations, and between systems for tactical effectiveness.

The SICS solutions range is committed to meeting expectations in terms of collaborative combat at operational and system levels.

Federated Mission Networking logo

Forces readiness for joint-operations:

  • Operation proven: SICS is combat-proven. It has been deployed in operations in Mali and is used during operational exercices (French Army, NATO).
  • We actively take part to NATO FMN (Federated Mission Networking) which is a NATO initiative to better communicate, train and operate with Allied and partner forces, enhancing interoperability and information sharing, to support coalition operations readiness.
  • We are constantly working on structural interoperablility with allied systems at various levels, such as symbology, communication standards and norms.

   Forces coordination:

  • SICS solutions range enables collaborative combat from battle group command post to army aviation and dismounted soldier. With interfaces design per level of command to meet operational needs of every link of the chain of command.
  • As a battlefield digitalization solution, SICS enables blue force tracking and brings tactical situational awareness to deployed forces – at combined level and interarmy scale.
  • Belgian and french operational interoperability: SICS will be integrated in SCORPION vehicles to be deployed in the Belgian land forces as part of the CaMo partnership to generate fully interoperable Belgian/French Combined Battle SubGroup.
European Defence Fund

Interoperability with robotics:

  • Mission-Critical Systems team is part of an European Defense Fund (EDF) project named “MARSEUS”, to study and demonstrate a Command and Control (C2) solution to integrate robotics, to enable advanced operational superiority such as shooting beyond the direct line of sight.
  • Mission-Critical Systems team is developing a universal gateway to interface SICS with tiers air-land UAVs, robotics, sensors and remotely operated munition.
  • SICS includes a gateway to interface SICS with all drones, as well as Remotely Operated Munition (ROM)

Understanding the tactical situation with SICS is greatly facilitated. First of all because I know who does what and where, which gives me a clearer view of the battlefield. Then, by using systems like analysis mapping, I am able to enhance my decision-making process.
