What is FRMCS

FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) is the next-generation wireless communication standard for railways, designed to replace GSM-R. Based on modern 4G/5G technology, it enables more reliable, secure, and high-capacity communication between trains, trackside systems, and control centers.

What we offer

Railway communications are entering a new era. As GSM-R evolves toward FRMCS, operators need a trusted partner capable of ensuring continuity, interoperability, and long-term performance across both trackside and onboard environments.

We act as both a solution provider and system integrator, covering all key FRMCS service and application domains and components throughout the transition from GSM-R to FRMCS.

Our solutions

FRMCS Service & Application Strata

Our FRMCS Service and Application Strata are designed to integrate smoothly into multi-vendor telecom environments, ensuring interoperability and compliance with evolving standards. Designed to integrate seamlessly with telecom vendor solutions, our architecture enables a smooth migration path while maintaining operational continuity.

    Key components include:
  • MCx solutions (Server & Client)
  • MCx Dispatcher systems
  • Trackside Gateway
  • Voice and data recording solutions
  • IMS / SIP Core
  • GSM-R Interworking Function (IWF)
  • Interoperability with legacy systems
  • IWF (SIP-R) for GSM-R
  • IWF (SIP) eg. for SIP PABX

FRMCS TOBA

With 25 years of experience delivering onboard railway solutions, we provide a robust and future-proof FRMCS TOBA offering. Our onboard solutions are engineered for reliability, performance, and long service life in demanding railway environments.

The role of Interworking Function (IWF)

An Interworking Function (IWF) is a technical function that enables different communication systems or networks to work together seamlessly.

In the railway context, it allows services, applications, and users to communicate across technologies such as GSM-R and FRMCS, despite differences in protocols, interfaces, or architectures. The IWF ensures continuity of railway operations during migration phases by translating signaling, voice, and data services between systems.

This makes it a key enabler for interoperability and smooth transitions between legacy and future railway communication networks.

A phased approach, enabled by MCx and Interworking Functions, allows railway operators to introduce next-generation communications early, maintain operational continuity, and move toward full FRMCS compliance at a controlled pace.
